The Territorial Board of Medical Examiners was established in 1882 (1882 NM Laws, Chp. 55, Sec. 1-16). In 1895 the duties of the Board were transferred to the newly established Territorial Board of Health (1895 NM Laws, Chp. 7, Sec. 1-11). In 1901 the duties of the Board were expanded to include the regulation of itinerant drug vendors and the Board was re-named the New Mexico Board of Health (1901 NM Laws, Chp. 18, Sec. 1-12).
